Interested In Performing at Folk On The Rocks?

The 30th annual Folk on the Rocks Music Festival will be held July 16-18, 2010 at the Long Lake site in Yellowknife, Northwest Territories.

Each year we programme approximately 25 artists from around North America and overseas. Typically, the composition of our annual line-up would be somewhere in the region of 50% Northern performers (living or originally from NWT, Yukon or Nunavut) and 48% coming from elsewhere in Canada or the USA. 2% would come from overseas. All musical genres are considered. Artists perform one concert and participate in several workshops (sing-arounds, jams or developmental workshops for the general public).

Folk on the Rocks receives over 200 submissions a year from artists around the world. Our Selection Committee considers every submission. We also consider recommendations made by other festival producers, audience members and artists. Programming decisions take into consideration the strength of an artist's performance and material, the overall variety of the Festival's artistic program and the artists ability to provide original workshop ideas.

How To Apply

Submissions will open on October 1st, 2009.

If you would like to be considered for our festival, please send CD's and minimal printed materials (bio, contact sheet, press clippings) before January 15, 2010 for Southern musicians and March 1, 2010 for Northern performers (NWT, Nunavut and the Yukon).

Please do not consider an email link to your website as a submission. Submissions will only be accepted through the mail or online at SonicBids. Sonicbids will be open for submissions until January 15th, 2010.

If you do not have a press kit, you may download a Northern application.

Application Follow-up

As the Festival is a non-profit organization run almost entirely by volunteers, we aim to keep administration costs to a minimum. We cannot write or telephone everyone to confirm receipt of submissions, but we will send you an email confirmation of receipt of your submission. Bookings are normally completed by late March. If you have not heard from us by then, you can assume that we were not able to include you in the line-up.

Thank you very much for your interest in our festival, and good luck!
